Thousands of Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers’ including their family members on Saturday took to the streets to register protest for their various demands including streamlining of pending four month salaries, implementation of transfer policy and regularization policy.
To highlight what they say pathetic conditions of teachers under SSA and other ReT a flood of people which includes Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers and their family members registered a protest at Press Colony Srinagar and took a walk towards Directorate School Education Kashmir (DSEK) office where they held a sit-in there amid anti government slogans. The protests came a day after the Finance Department today released Rs 140 crore for payment of salaries to the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers in the State.
On Friday the a delegation of Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers held a meeting at the DSEK Conference Hall which was attended by Commissioner Secretary Education Farooq Ahmad Shah, Director School Education Dr Ghulam Nabi Itoo, JDs and other. However, the meeting as per the sources could not bear fruits as a result the teachers hit the streets to meet their demands. Threatening to lock down schools in case government fails to meet their demands the protestors urged upon the Education Minister to fulfill their demand. Pertinently, there are about 65,000 teachers posted in different schools of state.
Parvaiz Akhoon, a teacher from Bandipora talking that the time bound promotions of ReT teachers and implementation of Transfer Policy is on hold despite the court orders, adding, our salaries have also been put on hold from last four months as such we (Rehbar e Taleem teaching fraternity) have been left with no option but to hit streets to seek solution of the issues being confronted by them.
